My photography is inspired by my love and reverence for the natural world. My intent is to capture the amazing beauty and complexity of the smaller creations of nature. I think of these images as portraiture and I strive to reveal the unique essence of the flower, fruit, vegetable, leaf, or shell in my focus. Although some of my photos are taken in a natural setting, I enjoy arranging still life compositions that feature these beautiful objects and photographing them in my small home studio. My hope is that my viewers will appreciate these lovely natural creations in the same way as they would appreciate a fine piece of art or sculpture.
There is a touch of Fall in the air today. I was inspired to include some new Fall images in the slideshow along with photos of seasonal flowers such as sunflowers and hydrangeas and the stars of late summer gardens-dahlias. Every year in September I look forward to spending time in a local friend's extensive dahlia garden. It is truly a spiritual experience to be surrounded by so much beauty. Dahlias are amazingly diverse. The blooms range from the softest pink and lavenders to intense oranges and reds. And then there are all the types and sizes of blooms ranging tiny pompoms to dinner plates. A flower photographer's paradise!
